Single cab diesel General motors CIE 128 at Dun Laoghaire
RAIL 04 PHOTO
This is Crofton Road, Dun Laoghaire, showing Irish Rail single cab 121 class engine, 128 hauling mark 2s, probably the up Rosslaire. It was lightweight power, even for six carriages and the timetable incorporated ample recovery time. While the class still survives, they are only used occasionally and always paired with something else. The classic pairing was with another class member with noses coupled. They were a reasonably reliable engine and quite popular with train crew.
In the foreground can be seen the remains of Dun Leary crossing, removed as part of the DART surburban electrification scheme (many thanks to DSE for the information).
