Site where the world's first type (tire) was manufactured but the building was demolished in 2005.
This was Stephen's Street upper, site of the world's first pneumatic tyre which was invented by John Dunlop. Dunlop, a Scotsman living in Donnybrook, Co. Dublin, was persuaded to develop his invention by a group of enterprising Dublin businessmen. Thus the world has travelled in comfort ever since! Incredibly, the entire site was demolished in 2005 (I think). There was a plaque commemorating the event but precious else marking the site. The memorial plate details are here [picture taken June 2002]
