ROAD TRACTOR AT SLIGO TERMINAL, 1979
RAIL 12 PHOTO
Also taken during my visit to Sligo (see previous), another scene from a bygone age. The road tractor and trailer (note the vintage licence plates) ferried Guinness kegs (barrels) from the railhead into Sligo town. The loaded kegs, which originated in St. James's Gate Brewery, Dublin, were manhandled off the rail wagons onto the trailer. Also present in the picture are numerous containers, particularly Bell Line, and the weekly oil train from Dublin's North Wall (see here).
The staff were most helpful and accomodating, once asked politely; note the pride and smart dress of the gentleman on the left, the the late Jack Hanney RIP. Paschal Wynne is the gentleman on the right; I'm delighted to acknowledge the assistance of readers of the Sligo Weekender in identifying them. Picture taken 19 April, 1979.
