TEST EQUIPMENT ON RAIL FLAT WAGON AT LIMERICK JUNCTION

RAIL 14 PHOTO

Some very mysterious goings-on at Limerick Junction on 7 December 1986, with test equipment carried on a bogie flat. The train was hauled by GM 147, presumably from Dublin. The device, for all intents and purposes looking like a bomb (that you might ahve found during the same period on the Belfast line!), was, I believe, to measure ride quality of the container and, perhaps, the wheelset also.

Those were the days when Irish Rail took freight seriously, and looked to improve the situation! The visit was well worthwhile because I also photographed 035 on the Waterford-Limerick liner, as well as 014 and beet wagons.
