RAIL 17 PHOTO

I intend that picture, in addition to the next pictures, as a tribute to the 'A' or '001' class. These characteristic workhorses were a familiar sight during my youth and I was lucky to be able to capture some of them on film.

The first, taken at CIE's Open Day at Inchicore on 14 July 1979, shows 053 ex-works in immaculate condition. Originally built and powered by Metropolitan Vickers, they were re-engined with General Motors engines.
